Two-Plus Decades Of The Ford Escort
The long life of the Ford Escort — the model sold in the United States and Canada, for the most part — took on several different shapes, though every one aimed to capture a large segment of the compact car market. Up until 1981, Ford had mostly failed at doing so though its new attempt with what it dubbed a “world car” would seek to attract buyers in North America.
As a model that ran up through the 2003 model year, the compact Escort had a very nice life. The new Focus picked up the load after the little compact was put out to pasture though thousands of them still run on the roads to this day. Originally based of model off the same name sold in Europe, it was redesigned extensively before being put forward for sale to Americans.
The Ford Escort was also the company’s first front-wheel-drive car, and it replaced Ford’s subcompact Pinto, which had been in production since 1971 and had been through several controversies which impacted sales of that model. In the 1980s, the Escort was one of Ford’s most successful models. In fact, it was so well-liked that it was the single best selling car in the United States by its second year and for most of the 1980s.
In total, three generations of the Escort was produced by Ford, with each model and body style being a qualitative improvement over its predecessor. Over the life of the vehicle a number of engines and transmissions were offered, including a little diesel engine of 52 horsepower and a high-performance powerplant the kicked out a healthy 120 horses and could propel the small Escort quite capably.
Over the course of the third, and last, generation (1997-2202), the engineers at Ford had put it all together, creating an admired small car that could put out nice performance using its four-cylinder engines and also show off relatively attractive sheet metal that appealed to a lot of customers.
Throughout its life span, the Escort appeared in a number of different body styles and/or combinations, including a three door hatchback, a five door hatchback/sedan, a station wagon and also a range of sporty looking coupes, which made their appearance in 1998. Ford kept up with the times in periodically freshening up the interiors to keep the vehicle interesting.
Over its life, the Ford Escort played a vital part in keeping the car’s Dearborn-based automaker alive and well. Keeping it in showrooms allowed the company to learn how to manufacture compact vehicles while simultaneously selling a great many of them to many a customer. This had the happy effect of keeping the Blue Oval on the minds of many consumers and for that reason alone, the Escort must be considered a success.

Ford Aspire More Than Just An Aspiration
From 1994 up until the year 1997, the Ford Motor Company sold the Ford Aspire. This was a subcompact automobile which has been made available with 2 options as laid out in the number of doors. One held three doors while the other one held 5 doors. The complete body of the Ford Aspire was made by the Kia Motors company with HQ in South Korea. The engine as well as the engine components was from the Mazda automobile company in Japan. It is very interesting to note that this automobile has been sold and promoted as the Kia Avella in Asia. However, if you travel to Japan and Australasia, you’d be shocked to find out that the Ford Aspire is understood there as the Ford Festiva. It is only 1 automobile however it has been sold under different names.
The average fuel usage for the Ford Aspire is some 30 Miles which is quite a different number from what the manual announces. The manual claims that it can take up to forty five miles per galloon. Apart from that fascinating fact, the Ford Aspire is also very much favored for parallel parking. Also known for their resistance to submit to mechanical breakdown, these Ford Aspires have been known to have the capacity to run above some 200,000 miles without needing to endure major repairs.
Upon its introduction in 1994, the Ford Aspire held a 5 speed manual transmission as well as an automatic transmission. This auto is a front drive automobile. It generally incorporates a 63 hp engine with four cylinders. For the two-door model, the Ford Aspire sports fog lights, a rear spoiler as well as different sorts of seats provided. As specified in the Ford Aspire that sports four doors, it holds a power rack and pinion steering. Thru the years, many changes have been done to the Ford Aspire. The list encompasses the removal of the front spoilers, and adding in of body-colored window moldings, rear spoilers, fog lamps, tachometer, a unique instrument cluster, special seat fabrics, special door trim fabrics, and center roof pillars. There also are changes like new front fenders, new rear fenders, headlamps, turn signals, tail lamps, and wheel covers. Its design has been proven to work well in permitting a fairly large amount of load. If the back seats are folded, the cargo is expanded greatly.
Ford Parts and Ford automobile Parts manufactures and sells performance parts and accessories for Ford vehicles. Ford Parts and Ford vehicle Parts tries to be the final source for auto parts and accessories for the Ford Aspire as well as for Ford autos. The store’s product line up for the Ford Aspire accessories, body parts, brakes, climate control, clutch parts, electrical parts, transmission parts, mechanical parts, service tools, and a selection of other upgrades and parts that compliment the vehicle. Honda Making The Fit To Compete with Scion
Toyota’s Scion brand has been a runaway hit for the Japanese automaker ever since being launched in 2003. Designed to appeal to Generation “Y” buyers, the vehicles are favored, edgy – some people might say hideous – and have given Toyota a crucial toehold with young buyers. GM, Ford, and Chrysler are getting ready to make a response to Scion, but in other ways. GM is intending to import more cars from its Daewoo subsidiary while Ford and Chrysler are expected to build all new Scion fighting autos in Mexico, excellent news for motorists looking for affordable and quality automobiles. Let’s have a look at what’s coming down the pike.
For the record, Scion isn’t the sole auto made for the Generation Y crowd. Honda’s Element and soon to be released Fit subcompact are Scion rivals while the Chevy Cobalt, Dodge Caliper, and Saturn ION are also targeted toward fresh drivers. With that said, Dodge [Chrysler] and Ford must reply and it appears that both automakers will be fielding Scion fighters within the next two years.
The Dodge Hornet
Lo and behold, Dodge is nearing the finalization of its plans to build the Dodge Hornet. According to industry sources including Edmunds, the Wasp will be based on the VW Polo, a subcompact vehicle built by Volkswagen and favored in the ECU market. This deal is amazing as Volkswagen and Mercedes [a DaimlerChrysler division, as is Dodge] compete fiercely, especially in Europe. VW has a plant in Mexico that likely will produce the Wasp as the Firm has excess capacity and the price tag advantage that no Yankee manufacturing plant can offer. For its part, VW gets to sell rebadged versions of the Dodge Caravan minivan.
If based on the Polo, the Hornet is expected to use the Polo’s 1.6L engine and be paired with a VW transmission. Beyond that, look for the automobile to be closer in appearance to the Scion xA design, sport a five door hatchback design, and seat 5 passengers. Currently, the xA sells for just over $13,000, so expect the Dodge to compete at or below the Scion price.
The Ford Bronco
Don’t expect Ford to sit back and watch from the sidelines as the market trends toward more Scion-like vehicles. In 2004 a concept Ford Bronco, taking styling cues from the 1966 Bronco wagon, made its appearance at vehicle shows. Now, Ford would appear good to go ahead with the Bronco which will also be built in Mexico.
Featuring a boxy design, the Bronco will be similar in design to the xB and to the Wasp and will probably be built on the current Fiesta platform to hold costs down. Indeed, Ford hopes that a budget Bronco will sell for under $10,000 as it battles cheap imports predicted from China as well as other Generation “Y” vehicles on the market.
Yes, the automobile wars never end and more battles are sure to ensue. Both Nissan with its Versa and a little Toyota by the name of Yaris will soon be released and competing on the market before the Wasp and Bronco arrive in 2008 as 2009 models.

The Best Car Ever?
It is quite a challenge to determine what makes a truly great car. I spent about an hour this morning arguing with my colleagues about the three top categories for choosing a car. Eventually we shook on value for money, engine performance and reliability. We all agreed there were other factors to take into account (practicality, top speed, gadgets) but the chosen three seemed most urgent.
Value for money relates directly to the quality of car you get for money paid. The chances are stacked against you getting a sporty car, with a V8 engine and all the safety certification in the world for less than £20,000, but if you can do it that would represent exponentially good value for money. Engine performance takes into account not only BHP/torque and speed, but also issues such as economy issues (how much it costs to run) and ecology issues (CO2 Emissions). Finally, reliability became the third point to our holy trinity of what makes a truly great car, after all it doesn’t matter how supercalifragilisticexpialadocious your car is, if it breaks down every 30 miles or so it is pretty much worthless.
When applying these categorisations to our fairly large knowledge of cars, one particular model kept being mentioned. Every time it was mentioned we dismissed it as a rather silly idea, but the more you think about it the more it begins to make sense. The model in question was the Ford Mondeo.
I know what you’re thinking; you’re thinking ‘how can they consider the Ford Mondeo to be an amazing car?’ Well, that’s precisely why we dismissed it at first, but the Ford Mondeo definitely does tick all the boxes.
When it comes to Ford, no one does value for money quite as well as them. Engine performance on the Mondeo is fantastic with great levels of power and economy. As far as reliability goes, the Ford Mondeo has one of the most formidable names in the business. See if you can think of anything to rival the Ford Mondeo in these categories. It’s a pretty good game!

Scrappage Scheme Participants Charged More for Deals
The initial idea of the car scrappage scheme was good, buyers entering the scheme are loosing out on the low price deals because car dealers are not offering them to the participants.
If you are unsure of what the scrappage scheme is, it’s where the government gives you a £2,000 grant to scrap your old car if it’s 10 years or older.
Not all customers will be denied the deal. Only new car buyers that take out a loan with the manufacturer to pay off the car over a number of years. The way they will be loosing out is because the car manufacturers who offer loans that have interest rates as low as 4.0%, they are charging customers on the scrappage scheme up to 10% APR. This now means that it would be cheaper to sell your car on the side and get a lower APR.
Toyota is just one manufacturer that is increasing their percentage rates for their customers who are part of the scheme. Toyota offers loan deals with annual percentage rates between.9 and 5.9%, due down to the length of the loan. However, they are choosing to only offer a 8.9% rate to participants of the scrappage scheme. This means that if you were buying a T2 Avensis, it would cost you £14,565 with the scrappage scheme grant, but once you pay off the loan in full, you would have ended up paying an extra £700 over the original retail price of £16,000.
Ford and Seat are another 2 manufacturers that are doing the same thing to scrappage scheme participants. Ford normally offer car buyers a 3.9 APR, but if you are buying your car as part of the scheme, you have to settle with the 7.9 APR that they have to offer. Seat is the worse of the 3, their loans normally carry a 0 APR, however, if you are part of the scrappage scheme, you will have to have a 8.9 APR.
This problem has come about because the government is making the manufacturers pay half of the bill rather than the government paying for the entire scheme. This has resulted in an increase in percentage rates to make sure that the car manufacturers don’t loose any money.
It now seems that it would be more beneficial to sell your car seperately rather than participating in the new scrappage scheme. However, there are different options that there rather than buying your own car. Contract hire is a method of owning a car that is often overlooked. By taking out a Ford lease you can get the latest cars at cheaper prices.
So before you choose to be part of the scrappage scheme, take time to consider your other options.

Have You Seen The New Fiesta?
If you are looking for a brand new car, why not try a new Ford Fiesta? The new version of the Fiesta has been released to critical acclaim and has sold like hot cakes. After a successful unveiling at various international car shows, the Ford Fiesta started gaining critical attention. Upon its release it didn’t disappoint. What has gained the most press attention are the Fiesta’s bold and sporty new looks. The previous Fiesta looked like a slightly scaled down Ford Focus, where as the new fiesta is a complete new entity on its own.
The engine and interior is almost identical to the previous Fiesta models of recent years. That isn’t a bad thing though; the Fiesta has always been a comfortable place to be when driving. There is also the added bonus of sat-nav, Bluetooth and MP3 Connectivity in some of the Fiesta’s various higher-end trim specifications. The engines are also fairly similar to previous Fiesta incumbents, the 1.25 Litre petrol option being the most popular choice.
As far as drive quality goes, the Ford Fiesta is simply perfect for its price range. The lightness of steering and eagerness of the engine make this a very enjoyable car to drive, whether you are in the city or motorway. It is, however, at its best when cruising through the city streets, looking and handling confident and assured amongst the various challenges with urban driving.
As there are a plethora of models and trims to choose from, recommending the right Fiesta is a difficult choice. There isn’t a huge amount of performance difference between some of the models, other than slightly more powerful engines. I would recommend that as this is a budget supermini, you keep the spec simple and keep costs down. You will still experience an unrivalled drive and one far superior to the Fiesta’s competition.
Test drive a brand new Ford Fiesta today and you will physically feel its superiority in comparison to the other superminis on the market.
