Tips On Assembling Metal Storage Buildings

without comments

Metal storage buildings have become increasing popular over the last few decades. Homeowners usually purchase them to relieve crowding in the garage, so that they can reclaim it for their cars. The sheds are typically used as storage for things like camping gear, lawn mowers, and gardening equipment.

Most of the backyard sheds are small or medium sized units used either for additional storage or to create a work shop. However, you can also find metal buildings large enough to store a plane, boat, or recreational vehicle. You can even find models the size of a barn if you need that much space.

The most economical way to add a storage building is to assemble one yourself from a kit. The models typically used for a backyard can normally be assembled in a day with two people. However, this excludes any time needed to level the site, pour concrete, or build a floor.

You should never try to construct your building when it is windy. Floors are highly recommended, and a concrete foundation is optimal. You can, however, build a floor of wood or buy a flooring kit made for use with the kit. At minimum, clear away any debris, level the dirt, and pack it as tightly as possible.

Level, firm ground that drains well is critical for success in constructing future steel buildings. At best it will prove difficult, and more than likely impossible, to fit the components together properly on an uneven site. The roof may not line up, and the walls may be crooked. Even if you manage to meet the challenges of assembly, it is likely that the doors will fail to open properly.

As assembly progresses, stop often to check that everything is level and even. If you let the walls go out of square, you will have numerous problems. The other walls and the roof supports will not line up correctly. Be sure to keep all components properly aligned as you work. Wait until construction is complete before anchoring the building, unless the manufacturer states otherwise.

Before you begin the assembly of the future steel buildings, read the instructions provided by the manufacturer. Assemble any tools you will need. Verify that all of the parts listed in the directions are included in the kit. If there are any missing items, contact the retailer and do not proceed without the parts.

Weather stripping should have been included in the kit. Be sure that you apply it correctly and make sure it adheres well. Should it fail, the building will probably leak. This can not only damage whatever you store inside, but can ruin a wood floor and cause the building itself to rust.

For those who plan to use the building for garden tools, a ramp before the door is often a good idea. This lets you roll heavy items such as a mower, edger, or tiller into place without the need to lift the weight. You might also consider the use of a solar panel to provide the power for lighting the interior if you like.

Metal storage buildings do need a little preventive maintenance from time to time. An application of silicone spray on the doors every 6 – 12 months will keep them moving easily. A build up of leaves and snow atop the building can make the roof rust or sag, so you will want to clear such accumulations. Scratches should be cleaned and dabbed with paint immediately to prevent rust. Examine the building periodically for any loose screws and bolts and tighten them immediately.

Offering state-of-the-art engineering and production values, our future steel buildings are among the best in the industry. The future steel buildings come in practical and efficient designs. A wide range of future steel buildings is available at affordable prices.

Do You Have Unused Space In Your Garage?

without comments

A common sight on a newly built house is a tandem style garage. While it may be a neat idea, it typically doesn’t work out for most people. Rather than the common side-by-side style of parking vehicles, a tandem puts one in front of the other. The big drawback is that if you want the car parked in the front, you first have to move the other car out of the way. Because of this being an inconvenience, most people are only parking one car in the garage, which then leaves extra space.

You need to be creative with the many ideas you can have for things to do with that extra space. Some guys like to turn their garage into a sort of hobby shop so that they can be surrounded by all their guy stuff. Most wives don’t care too much about what goes on in the garage and so it makes a perfect place for the guys to hang out. You can also turn your garage or part of it into another space like an office or workshop. The garage is a great place to get away and call your own so use your imagination with all your options.

When you select your lighting for the garage, you should consider the purpose that it will be used for. You will want to sufficiently light up your workspace if you will be utilizing a portion of it as a workshop. It’s important to brightly light any area where you will be using tools. Having adequate lighting is essential in ensuring a safe work environment, and safety should be your primary concern.

If you decide to use your extra garage space to make a game room, than you can choose subtler lighting that suits a game room aura. You will need to install artificial light as it is uncommon for a garage to have enough or any natural light. You can tailor the lighting to exactly what you plan to use the space for.

If a work area isn’t exactly what you have in mind for that extra garage space, then you might want to consider just using it for storage. If storage space is what you opt for, putting up cabinets can make a great addition for storing things and keeping it organized. Depending on your own personal taste, the cabinets don’t have to be fancy; they just need to be practical and suitable for the job. Storage cabinets can be purchased from a home improvement store or you can shop around online and find places to buy them there. Some people find it a bit much to mess with installing full cabinets, if this is the case, you can always go with shelves that are free standing, durable, and inexpensive.

Are you trying to find ideas for that extra garage space? If so, please visit my website Cool Garage Ideas where you will find lots of different things you can do with your garage such as garage game room ideas.

Auto Darkening Welding Helmets And Mig Welding

without comments

Auto darkening welding helmets are so easy to use. Compared to the older helmets you do not have to keep lifting up the lens. If you are mig welding one of these it will really improve your welding quality. It is really annoying for me personally to have to stop all the time and lift up the hood when I’m using the other type.

One of the biggest problems that I find using the old-style helmets is that when you go to start a weld you always end up starting off the mark. This is because you hold the mig welding gun in place and then you have to flip the lens down and because of that extra of body movement of flipping the lens down you can lose your position. It is really bad if you stick welding, then on top of that if you have bad eyes you’re really going to struggle.

Assuming that you work in a variety of different settings, however, an auto-darkening helmet is hands-down the better choice. At the top of the lens is the solar panel. This solar panel activates as soon as you either step into the sun, or strike an arc. Now you don’t have to worry about stopping in the middle of your weld to flick the lens up or down.

Depending on what helmet you get they have adjustable shade settings on the side which you can control with a knob. Typically they range between shade number eight to shade thirteen.

In Australia we call the old-style helmets “Ned Kelly’s and you have to switch out the lenses every time you change jobs making it very bothersome. But with an auto-darkening welding helmet, there are adjustable settings on the side of the lens, as well as on the inside of the helmet. The helmet that I have is fairly basic, but the more elaborate ones have many more settings on and in them.

Basic as it may be, my helmet provides me the ability to adjust my “sensitivity” levels from low to high, and I can also set my “delay time” to slow or fast. And what’s best is that you can use the auto darkening welding helmets for ARC, MIG and TIG welding!

Pictures and a welding helmet video I have made about Auto Darkening Welding Helmets see here http://www.learn-how-to-weld.com/auto-darkening-welding-helmets.html

Doing Your Own Garage Flooring

without comments

Are you intending to apply your garage flooring yourself? This is a great way to save some money, and simultaneously improve your home, but I bet you’re wondering what, exactly, applying your own garage flooring will consist of. Since this is an investment, after all, you’ll want to use a method that will be both cost efficient and effective. This article will give you a quick review of what all will need to be done for all of the different types of garage flooring.

Epoxy Garage Floor Paint: The Most Comprehensive Garage Flooring Option

Epoxy paint is some great stuff. For all extents and purposes, using epoxy is akin to adding an extra, sort of bouncy, and also stain resistant layer to the top of your concrete garage floor. It’s also the cheapest if you do it yourself. Unfortunately, though, this comes at a cost of labor hours. Not only does an epoxy garage floor coating take the longest of any of these solutions, but it’s the only one with strict directions on exactly when you can install it. The weather has to be perfect, and you have to give it time to dry in between coats, as per the kit’s instructions. The floor must also be very clean before you even begin.

Garage Floor Tiles: Garage Flooring That Can Be Almost As Good As Epoxy Paint

Paint sound like a daunting project, but still need a good, thorough solution? Tiles will protect the concrete garage floor just as well from any stains. Not only are they almost as durable but, if needed, they can be individually replaced if they ever become damaged, providing you can find tiles of that design later on. When installing, you can take breaks whenever needed, though the install will take around as long as paint. As the tiles don’t really have to dry or anything, you shouldn’t have to worry too much about weather, although there may be some extremes that you will need to avoid, as per the directions. Since the tiles are going to stick to whatever happens to be on the floor, the cleanliness is just as important as when painting, if not moreso.

Garage Floor Mats: The Alternative Garage Flooring

If the first two options just sound like too much work, then maybe a full garage floor mat would be your best solution. Generally, the install merely involves cutting and placing the mat. Cleaning the floor is a good idea, but not really necessary, since there is nothing sticking to the concrete. If the floor is heavily damaged, a mat may be the only real solution. Unfortunately, a very large mat is often the most expensive option and, depending on the quality of the mat, simply driving on them may cause them to bunch or bend.

Compartment Garage Floor Mats: Garage Flooring For One Area

If you only need to cover a particular part of the garage, especially for a limited time, compartment mats will be your best option. A compartment mat is exactly what it seems: a single mat that you lay down in a place that is likely to get dirty, such as where a car will park or where you will be working. They run around the price of a paint kit, and can be cleaned outside of the garage if necessary. If you so choose, they can often even be turned into a complete garage floor covering by snapping them together or overlaying them, but that can become very expensive considering the sheer number of mats you will be buying.

A Great Garage Needs A Finished Floor

without comments

Men like their garages and often times their wives let them have free run of them. While the wife gets many of the rooms inside the house, the garage is the mans place with which to do anything they like.

If you have extra space in the garage, you might want to turn it into a game room or a place where you can hang out with friends and have fun. This might include installing a flat screen television on the wall, a pool table, a pinball machine, or other such fun things. Brainstorming to figure out how you would really like to use the extra space in your garage is always a good idea.

The best garage flooring ideas depend on what you want to accomplish. Some people just want to make their garages look better by putting down a cover on the cement floor. They want it more for looks than anything else because it can give the garage a more “finished” look. These people are usually looking for some type of mat that will cover all or part of the garage.

Your easiest choices are mats and you can decide to cover the whole floor or just part of it. Mats can be made out of rubber, plastic, or other materials and they can be made into custom shapes and sizes. If you dont want mats, you might choose to seal your floor as a way of protecting it. Sealing your garage floor is a great way of protecting it from all the dirt and water that is brought in and it makes the floor look better as well.

When you seal the floor or install mats, it also makes it easier to clean after a hard winter. People also choose to finish their garage floors because it then allows them to not have the cold pavement under their feet if they want to turn part of the garage into a workout room, game room, or some other type of room where you can go to get away from the rest of the house. Finishing the garage floor just makes the garage more complete and raises your homes resale value too.

How I Am Building My Flat Roof Carport: Part One

without comments

I am just about to start to build a flat roof carport. I have spent some time considering what type of carport would be cheapest and easiest to build. Although I suppose the cheapest and easiest would be a metal carport kit, I wanted to have the build it myself experience so that eliminated carport kits as an option.

While I was researching the steps necessary for a project like this, I discovered that the first thing I needed to do before putting a shovel to the ground is to apply for a building permit from my municipality. This will need to include fairly accurate and detailed drawings, including elevations, of what I have planned, the measurements, the lumber dimensions, and materials, and any electrical and water runs that I will be including. The city doesn’t require that I have this computer generated or anything, so accurate hand drawings are fine, but it does have to meet structural requirements for the snow loads expected in our area, as well as any particular building code requirements.

Unfortunately while I was discussing the requirements of my application, I was told that of course my property taxes would be increased the following year. This is something that I totally overlooked, but of course, any improvements and additional structures that I add to my property will increase the overall value of my property, therefore my taxes will go up. The only consolation is that a carport will bump up my taxes far less than an attached full garage.

Following my fact finding step where I figured out what I needed to file with the city before receiving my permit, I now have the task of actually getting my visual concept onto paper where any details that need refining or problems with my concept will come to light before I commit my idea to a formal building plan. I have planned to build a carport that will echo the style of my house, so there are quite a few details that are cosmetic only, and I can add on top of the basic structure which will not impact the structural design. Deciding on a wooden carport actually has benefits in this way over a metal carport, since my final carport is going to blend in much better than if I had chosen a kit.

Finally I need to break my artistic rendering plan down into a building plan, and for this I will be consulting an engineering friend of mine. I have worked on a fair number of DIY projects myself, but I’m a builder not an engineer so I rely on someone else to make sure my plans will be up to code. Also, part of the reason that I’m building a flat roof carport is that I think I may want to use the roof of the carport as a second deck sometime in the future. This means that the loads and spans etc need to be calculated with that in mind, and it is just safer to have things properly engineered from the start.

I am very excited about getting this project started. I hope to actually get a shovel to the ground by the start of July. It will be strictly a weekend project for me. My hope is that my new flat roof carport will be finished by the middle of September with allowing myself a few fishing weekends.
