Don’t Read This If You Plan To Build A Go Kart
Go karting is something that almost every age can enjoy, no matter where you are. If you participate in this hobby, you may have considered building your own go cart. With their simple design, they should be easy to build. Right? But you should take into consideration the following reasons to NOT build your own go kart. Read this first before you go searching for plans.
Go karts, although simple in design, can be incredibly complicated to build. You need to make sure that you have all the equipment and materials before you begin, and really need to know what you’re doing. Having proper plans of how to build a go kart is essential, and always make sure that you get them from a reliable source.
Have you had experience in actually building either a machine or a vehicle? If you haven’t done this, building a go kart that you are going to drive around a track at high speed might not be the best project to start with. If you’ve made a mistake in building the go kart, or if the bolts haven’t been tightened properly, there could be an accident with disastrous consequences.
It can not only be dangerous when it’s complete, but building a go kart in the first place can come with its own hazards. If you don’t know what you’re doing you’re putting yourself at risk of injury, so it’s best to steer clear.
You need to consider the cost implications of building your own go kart. The equipment and material costs can easily mount up, and it could be far cheaper to buy one instead. Don’t forget that you’ll also need an engine, which can not only be expensive but it can be hard to find a quality one as well.
The costs don’t stop once you’re finished. There’s the reputation that go karts have of bringing several problems, small and large, with them. A first time go kart builder is not necessarily a good quality control person. You’re not going to have a manufacturer to consult. You can’t bring it in for warranty work. You’ve built it and now you’ve got to fix what ever is wrong. This is another time when the costs begin to escalate.
Time constraints also need to be taken into consideration. Building your own go kart can take a huge amount of time, and if you don’t have it to waste it would be far preferable to buy one. Again, needing to fix your go kart if it breaks down will waste even more time.
With all these disadvantages, why would you want to build your own go kart? It would be far easier, cheaper, safer and would mean a higher-quality product if you went out and bought one instead.
