Things to do to maintain your car
One things a lot of people have a problem with is taking care of their cars. One main reason for this is because cars are made well. They perform well for a long time that people tend to neglect maintaining them. But like anything with moving parts you need to maintain it.You will have more problems with it if you neglect to take care of it. So here are a couple of maintenance tips you have to do to keep your car running well.
Obviously, first thing is to have regular tune ups. When people bring their cars into my San Diego auto repair shop I try to emphasize this to them.Regular tune ups can do a lot of good to your car.Well, for the most obvious reason it can will keep all the parts in good running condition. But it can also spot early problems with your car. And as with anything the sooner you get to a problem the easier it is to fix. When it comes to car problems you would want to detect it as early as possible. Because once it gets hard to fix it gets expensive.
The next thing you want to do is keep the oil changed regularly. Not being able to do this will affect the performane of your engine. An engine that runs bad has many problems. One of those problems is when it gets older it will fail a smog test. Whenever I have a car fail in my San Diego smog check shop a lot of times I see they never changed their oil regularly. You can also ruin your engine if you do not change oils.
Another thing you must regularly maintain are your brakes. Brakes are a part of your car that can get expensive to fix when broken. The solution is to not let it break. So I have all my clients of my San Diego brake shop make sure they maintain their brakes.
So there goes some of the things that you should regularly maintain when you own a car. Proper maintenance will save your car from big problems in the long run.

Things we don’t about cars common problems
All car owners experience some problems with their cars.It does not matter what brand of car you have. Cars are just machines and machines break down. But there are things that you can do to avoid this from happening. Or if not avoid you can at least lessen the problems they give you.
First problem we cantal about is the problem caused by running your car on low oil. This really isn’t a problem. But some people out there with cars neglect this one basic fact that cars burn oil.Since your car burns oil it will eventually run out of it unless you regularly check and maintain it. That is one of my biggest pieces of advice for my San Marcos auto repair company. Make sure to always check your oil. If it is low add some oil.It will enable you to prevent those engine damages caused by running on low oil.
Another common problem that people always bring to my Carlsbad auto repair shop is check engine light problems. It usually about your emmision when your check engine light turns on. First thing to realize is you don’t have to panic. It isn’t something that will ruin your car.You just have to look at your car manual first to know what the problem is exactly about . You do want to eventually have a mechanic look at it but don’t worry about it for now.
Last problem I would tackle is about clicking noises. This is often caused by debris buildup or rocks stuck in the tires. All you have to do is pull over and look at your tires. When you find some rocks or debris then you can just use some stick or pen to remove it.It is not something that can hurt your car.It will just make you worry especially if you are not well-versed with car problems because it might sound like there is something wrong with your car.And it can also be annoying. But it would not even cause a major problem with your car even in the long run.
So, there you have some of the most common problems with your car. Here’s hoping that you would not get too worried the next time you encounter these problems.

Used cars and maintenance records
One of the current trends going on with buying a used car is their maintenance records.A lot of people are now interested in seeing if a car has all of it’s maintenance records. Because after all if somebody took care of a car you can trust it will last longer. So if you own a car it is very important to keep all the records of service.Because quite a few buyers are now wanting to see that.
So some things you can do is every time you go in to get service for your car keep a receipt of it. In my San Diego auto repair business I make sure to give all my clients a receipt of the work that was done. Make sure whichever company you take your car into does the same. This could mean the difference in getting the price you want or settling for a lot less.
Also whenever you take your car in for a tune up keep a record of it.Getting your vehicle tuned up on a regular schedule will help it run longer and smoother. It also helps to get your car to pass a smog test much easier. In my San Dieg smog check center I notice cars that weren’t tuned up regularly are the ones that fail the test.
Finallly even for getting your brakes serviced you want to make sure to keep good records of that service. This is another important part of making sure your car is taken care of.It one thing that a prospective buyer will want to look at.Because the thing that a new buyer is not interested in having to do is go and get some brake service. So in my San Diego brake shop I make sure to give a thorough report to all my clients.
Hopefully you see how important maintenance is if you want to sell your car for top dollar.A lot of buyers now want a history of mainteance for the cars they want to buy.By making sure to keep all your maintenace records you can show that you did take care of it.

Changing a Vehicles Spark Plugs
There are many different reasons why you may need to change your spark plugs. If you are wondering exactly why, when, and what your spark plugs do, here are a few facts that may answer a few of your spark plug questions.
Spark plugs are named appropriately because they are the key instrument in sending the spark or igniting the engine of your vehicle. They are a fascinating part of your engine. When they don’t work though, it can be very annoying.
There are a couple main reasons why you might have to change your spark plugs. Some choose to keep their vehicle maintained well by changing their spark plugs when their vehicles manufacturing manual suggests. Check your vehicles manufacturing manual to find out at what mile to change your spark plugs.
You want to prevent using your spark plugs over the amount of time that they should be used. If your spark plugs are over used you will find that your car will have to work harder to get that spark and start your car. You’ll also notice that your car will idle roughly.
Another reason that you may have to change your spark plugs is that they may be fouled, worn, or suffer from bad wires. In order to find out if it is one of these you might have to watch for firing patterns with each of your cylinders. If you’re like me and have difficulty with this it’s always best to take it into a professional to tell you what they see.
As you continue to use the same spark plugs the electrodes will wear. As this continues and gets worse, your car will have to over work to be able to ignite the spark. Soon, your car won’t be able to produce the firing voltage and your spark plugs will need to be replaced.
If you are having difficulty starting your car, if it cranks but wont turn over, the first thing you want to do is double check your spark plugs. If you find that they are wearing out then it is time to change them. Many people choose to change them themselves, but some still like to bring it in first to a mechanic to make sure that it really is the spark plugs that are the problem.
Also check your vehicles manufacturers manual to see if what it says about spark plugs. Different vehicles may have different warnings and requirements. If you have any further questions talk to your local car shop, they will be able to tell you exactly what your vehicle needs.

Auto Repair: What to Look for in an Auto Repair Shop
It can be hard to find the perfect auto repair shop that you can really trust, because of that most people find themselves spending more money by just going to their dealership for repairs. The thing is, most of the time they will charge you more, and the wait will be longer. Here are some tips so that you can know what to look for in a good auto repair shop.
The first thing that I look for when I look for a great auto repair shop is great customer service. If the auto shop can?t communicate well with the customer, it doesn?t matter how much they charge, I would never work with them. The customer needs to know what is going on at all times with their car so communication and customer service is my number one priority.
One of the great things about the Internet is that it offers great recommendations for different repair shops right where you live. You can find out a lot about a repair shop by looking through reviews on them.
Experience is another key factor that you can learn about on the auto repair shops website. In fact, I like to know about the company before I work with them and I will only work with an auto repair shop if they have a website. Websites are such a great way to find out the history and experience of any auto repair shop.
It is also important to know prices and products. Pick an auto repair company that will talk about these things with you. Don?t always go to the shop that has the cheapest parts, they might always be the best for your car, and might not last that long either.
Call around and talk to different auto repair shops. Ask them about certifications, warranties, rates, and references. Doing all this before you get a car problem will insure that you save money and don?t just run to the first place you See.
Warranty information is really important to know as well. It can give you the satisfaction you need when you drive away that you have just bought a part that was well worth your money.
Also ask them about possible certifications that their mechanics have. Certifications will show how qualified the mechanics are too.

Ways to save money through your car
Today a lot of Americans are searching for ways to spend less of their money. With the state our economy is in, you can’t really find fault in them. They try to cut expenses any way possible.Or they might not go out as much. They aren’t going out and buying things of no use. But I would like to suggest a way you might not have thought about. That way you can find with your car.
When people think of saving money with their cars, they think of gas. They think of ways they can spend less on gas. But I would like to suggest if you maintain your car you can save more. I know this for a fact running my San Diego auto repair company.
With most cars people usually don’t think of maintenance. Unfortunately the only time they do think about it, is when it is too late. They wait for their car to have something go wrong or something to break down. But from my experience waiting till that point makes the auto repair more expensive.
Your brakes let examine for instance. If you can keep your brakes properly maintained you can prevent expensive repairs. If you fail to, you are going to have disc brakes that will be expensive to repair. Or you might have to replace the brake shoes. By properly using your brakes and maintaining them you can save money. So take it in to a brake shop like my San Diego brake shop and you can find out if you need to do anything.Things like checking the brake fluid to make sure there is enough.
Or people don’t get tuneups with their car. They disregard the engine’s maintenance. They aren’t doing an oil change as much as they are supposed to. This leads to your cars engine running bad.So poorly that it isn’t going to pass a smog check. From what I have seen running a smog test San Diego shop, if you fail a smog test, this can lead to expensive repairs just to get it to pass.
But if you properly maintain your car you can keep it in good shape. The engine can then run properly and much smoother.Wait longer then you should and you will end up spending a lot more money then expected.
I hope this shows you that maintaining your car is a great way to save money. Spend less now and you will get to spend less in the future.

Shocks & Struts 101
When we think of shocks and struts on our car we usually think that the only job that they have are to provide a comfortable ride for us. But shocks and struts do a lot more for us than that. We’ll be reviewing exactly what shocks and struts do and how to know when they really need to be replaced.
We have key control over our car because of our shocks and struts. As we drive they help us feel safe by giving our vehicle stability and a tight drive. It can be scary driving without them because of the lack of control we may feel.
Many cars come with superior hydraulic shocks. These are amazing because they help the driver, as well as the passengers, feel so safe because they feel like they have control. They don’t have to worry about swaying or rocking because the drive is so tight.
How do shocks and struts work so well? Hydraulic fluid is pushed through the valves in the pistons, which causes that tight resistance because of how little oil can actually be pushed through. Because oil cannot be compressed, it works perfect with your shocks and struts to allow you to feel a tight comfortable ride.
There isn’t just one type of shocks and struts that you can buy. There are many different types and many advanced ones that use nitrogen gas instead of hydraulic fluid. These are usually the superior shocks that you will be able to feel a definite difference with.
Everything in your car will naturally start to reduce in efficiency as time goes on, your shocks are no different. Even thought great maintenance work will prolong your shocks and struts, they still wont last forever. In fact, areas that are prone to ice, gravel, and heavy rainfall will wear out your shocks faster.
How can you know if your shocks and struts need to be replaced? Here are a couple of the usual signs; as you turn does your car sway far right or left, or does it feel tight? When you pull up to a stop sign or light do you feel the car moving after it has stopped?
It’s always smart to take your car in for a check up on your shocks and struts if you are feeling any of the above effects from your car. You will have a more enjoyable ride when your shocks are working to their full potential.

What Is A Tune Up?
Tune ups are so important for the preventative maintenance of our vehicle. If you want to make sure that you are taking care of all the needs of your vehicle, a yearly tune up is as important as any other part of your maintenance routine.
A lot of times, if things are going great and seem to be running well, we might think that a tune up isn’t necessary, but it really is the key to maintaining the health of your vehicle. If we want our cars to last longer, we have got to start taking better care of them.
During a tune up, your car repairman will replace certain parts of your engine for you. I’ve heard many people tell me that they don’t get tune ups because if the part works well then it doesn’t need to be changed. But really, there are certain parts in your vehicle that need to be frequently cleaned or replaced to unsure that your car performs like it should.
Tune ups are just the smart thing to do because you can end up saving money by catching and solving problems sooner. Most car experts agree that you should be bringing in your car for a tune up about once a year.
To show the importance of a tune up, let me show the cause of and effect that can happen if certain items in your car are not changed frequently. For example, if your air filter isn’t changed the engine will struggle to get the air that it needs to run properly, which can cause dirt buildup and overworking, as well as other problems that can be a chain reaction and end up cost a lot more money than if you had just gone in and gotten a tune up.
You will have to talk to your local professional for what services they offer for their tune ups. Most of them will offer replacing the distributor cap, rotor, the air filter, and the spark plugs. Some may offer more than this so it is smart to ask them what each general tune up that they have will specifically offer you.
When you bring in your car for a tune up ask a lot of questions both before and after about your car. Find out what they will be doing, what they will be changing or what they changed. Also make sure that you’ve asked them specifics on future problems that they see that you might have, etc.
Know the importance of a yearly tune up. Make sure that you are taking care of your car in a way that will help it last as long as it can.

Car repairs with a diy twist
Diy car repairs have become more popular through the decline of the economy. The do it yourself auto mechanic has returned to try and hold down the costs of operating family vehicles.
The increase of do-it-yourself auto repair has not had a negative impact to the local auto repair business or mechanics. The reason for this is that auto repair of older cars and trucks is up across the board. So even though car owners are performing more repairs on their own there is still plenty of work for professional mechanics and car repair shops.
One of the driving factors behind the need for auto repair online is the simple fact that people are keeping their vehicles longer once again. As you can see on TV this is not good for your local new car dealership. Often these slow dealers are being supported by their service department.
But this is also in large part self inflicted for many reasons. One being right before the collapse of the automotive industry, a large movement towards seven-year car loans. This would allow car buyers to get the automobile of their choice at a payment that is affordable. It also means that they must really like this car because they will have it for seven years.
Diy car repairs
After seven years of making payments people are hesitant to dive into another seven-year automotive mortgage. Recent research has shown that the average car owner will hold onto their automobile 3-5 years past the loans pay off date.
Owning the vehicle for 15 years presents an opportunity to save on auto repairs. Sticking to the maintenance schedule, as outlined in your owner’s manual is a step in the right direction.
If this is a used vehicle or the owners manual has been lost. Online auto repair manuals allow you to access the right maintenance schedule for your specific vehicle. These web-based documents can supply a lot of cost-saving information for do-it-yourself auto mechanics.
When it comes to saving money on vehicle maintenance costs over a 15-year period, every decision you make is important to the future costs of maintenance and repairs. Another reason that online auto repair manuals are a solid investment.
Saving money on replacing parts that are not needed is the principal benefit of following a professional auto repair diagram for your car’s problem. Large savings can be achieved over the vehicles 15 year life by not paying for repairs covered under a factory warranty.
Some people do not realize that a federal emissions warranty covers your vehicle’s catalytic converter and engine control module for a period of eight years or 80,000 miles.
These two parts that I mentioned are extremely expensive to pay for out-of-pocket. Many times both of these components are also misdiagnosed and replaced in error. Now the disadvantage of the federal emissions warranty is only these 2 components are covered. If your vehicle had a bad fuel injector that destroyed the catalytic converter, these repairs would not qualify for warranty coverage.
But if the catalytic converter collapsed inside because of a materials or workmanship default, this expensive repair would be covered under the federal emissions warranty for eight years or 80,000 miles. Note that this warranty is separate from the bumper to bumper and any extended auto warranty you might have.
This is often where Diy car repairs can save you some time and trouble. If either the control module or the catalytic converter fails the first telltale sign will be a check engine light. If you have your own cheap scan tool. You can pull the codes and see what has set in the computers memory.
You can then follow the diagnostic trouble code chart from your auto repair manual to see if either of the covered components has failed. If so it's time to visit your car dealer for some possible warranty repairs. One thing to mention is that the dealer service department will have to confirm the failed car parts. And furthermore if they are not covered you will in most cases have to pay for diagnosis time.
To summarize Diy car repairs can help you reduce your vehicles maintenance costs over time. Start with learning about and sticking to your cars recommended maintenance schedule. A driving factor behind this increase in diy car repairs is that people are staying with their vehicles longer.
